Official format
Verbal Reasoning has 44 questions in 22 minutes. The official test describes 11 passages with four questions each, and prior knowledge is not required.
Skills to practise
Practise locating explicit evidence, distinguishing inference from assumption, handling author claims and deciding when a passage deserves more time.
Repeatable practice workflow
- Read the stem and define the evidence needed.
- Locate or recall the relevant passage area.
- Check every answer against the text rather than prior knowledge.
- Record the error category and one pacing or reading adjustment.
Error-to-action guide
| Error | Next action |
|---|---|
| Missed explicit detail | Practise targeted evidence location without timing |
| Added outside knowledge | Underline the exact supporting sentence before answering |
| Inference too strong | Compare what is possible with what is supported |
| Passage consumed too long | Practise a skip-and-return threshold |
Review checklist
- Can I point to the text supporting my answer?
- Did prior knowledge influence the decision?
- Was the issue reading, inference or pacing?
- What single rule will I test next?
