UCAT Verbal Reasoning strategy

ยท Editorial owner: MedMantis

Official format

Verbal Reasoning has 44 questions in 22 minutes. The official test describes 11 passages with four questions each, and prior knowledge is not required.

Skills to practise

Practise locating explicit evidence, distinguishing inference from assumption, handling author claims and deciding when a passage deserves more time.

Repeatable practice workflow

  1. Read the stem and define the evidence needed.
  2. Locate or recall the relevant passage area.
  3. Check every answer against the text rather than prior knowledge.
  4. Record the error category and one pacing or reading adjustment.
